UNKNOWN BALANCE forecasts qive cosqrave a lead of nearly twenty seats THE FARMERS' VOTE
— By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
Rec. Jan. 15, 6.30 p.m. Dublin, Jan. 14. Mr. W. T. Cosgrave's annuities reduction offer had a bomhshell affeet, notably in the western farming areas, where the xetention of an unfettered British market is a vital issue. Followers of Mr. Cosgrave's campaign are already forecasting 85 seats for Mr. Cosgrave against 68 for Mr. de Valera. The more cautious suggest that Mr. Cosgrave's majority will be ten, but it is obvious that the farmers will replace Labour in holding the balance of power. The unknown factor is how far the poll will be affected by the young generation of irresponsible voters, swayed by Mr. de Valera's romanticism, and his promise of saving Ireland's honour from British aggression.
