EVENING MEETING KEEN COMPETITION AT ROTORUA CLUB'S SPORTS LAST NIGHT'S RESULTS The first sports meeting of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's January-February series was held last evening on the Government grounds. Although not as large as on previous occasions the attendance was satisfactory and the standard of the sport was well maintained. Close competition resulted in the men's hroad jump, which G. Rosser 'won on his handieap of 45 feet v/ith a jump of 17ft 3in. Second place was shar'ed between -I. Penningtbn, H. Steele and A. Lillas, the first named making a good jump of 18ft) 5in. In the :s.ame event for ladies B. Cottrell made a fine jump of 13ft lOin, one inch under the club record. Cycling events- were full of interest, the half-mile sprint being notable for a fine finishing effort by N. Howe to beat J. Lewis for second place by inches.
