Fell Into Creek While proceeding from Auckland to Tauranga on Monday a car swerved and dropped over a bank into a creek in the Te Puna district. The driver escaped injury and the car was undamaged. Municipal Conference The Municipal Association has notified the Rotorua borough Council that its conference will commence at Rotorua on Thursday, March 2, at 9.30 a.m.

Accidents at the Mount Two unfortunate accidents occurred on the beach at Mount Maunganui last Sunday. While surfing, .a Wellington visitor, Miss M. Wilson, was swept off the board by an extra large breaker with such force that her left shoulder was dislocated. The second case was that of Miss Isabelle Peebles, who dislocated an elbow as the result of falling off a donlcey. Mutilated Trees A complaint was jnade hy Cr. O. Coleman to the borough council night that( a tree outside Hooker's store had been horribly mutilated when erecting power lines. The Mayor said that this would not recur since better arrangements had now been made.

Workers Deputation A further deputation from the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association waited upon the Rotorua Borough Council last evening. Headed by Mr. R. Carnachan their requests were on the same lines as those made to the Rotorua County Council and Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P. The Mayor expressed the council's sympathy and said that the local committee had already made representations to the board. Last year the committee had been 1 able to make a bargain with the Un- ' employment Board so that the alloca- 1 tion was not reduced but had not been 1 able to do so this year. The council i decided to support the relief workers' : requests. ! Helpful Donation A donation of half-a-guinea has been received by Mr. L. J. Bayfeild : from Mr. Bomberg, of Staig's Amusements, for the use of the Sanatorium. , Tent Destroyed A fire broke out in a tent occupied by a lady and three children who were camping at Mount Maunganui last Saturday. The tent and contents were destroyed; a motor lorry parked in the vicinity was, with difficulty, saved from destruction hy Messrs. K. and S. Dunlop, of Te- Puke. ' Better Week Next Week The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, informed a relief workers' deputation that he believed that the reduction iru allocation next week would not he so large as the present week. The local committee was certainly doing its best to get all the money available. Strange Behaviour The strange actions of a man in Tauranga early on Tuesday morning caused a minor commotion and resulted in the man being taken in charge hy the-police and on the testimony of Drs. Stewart and Watt, eom- . mitted to the Tokanui Mental Hospital by Messrs. C. Whiting and A. J Mirrielees, J.'sP. The unfortunate man visited the telephone exehange several times during the night and also went to a house in the vicinity. Inquiries by the police showed that the man had reeently arrived in Tauranga from Waharoa, where his behaviour caused anxiety to a numher of farmers. Bath Fees Lost to Borough A letter from the Minister of Finance to Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., was received by the Rotorua Borough Council last evening notifying that the Government could not see its way clear to continue to pay a proportion of the bath fees to the borough. The matter was referred to the finance committee. It was mentioned that the loss of the fees might involve an increase in rates. Relief Workers Lauded "You will realise that the majoi'ity of relief workers in Rotorua have the deepest sympathy of this council. There are some who have not our sympathy — they don't deserve it. But I am glad to say that they are very much in the minority," The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson to a deputation from the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association last evening. Reduced Allocation The allocation for1 relief work was reduced hy £120 for Rotorua this week, compared with the previous weekly allocation. "Had a Fair Hearing" "I must say that as far as the Rotorua relief workers are concemed I have- always had a very fair hearing from the Unemployment Board," said Mr. T. Jackson, Mayor of Rotorua, to a relief workers deputation last evening.
