ENCOURAGING REPORTS FROM OTAGO CLAIMS
— By Telegrapli — Cppyrlght)
Dunedin, Wednesday. Greatly improved values of gold are being found in the claims worked at Karau Gorge by Messrs Bell and Kilgour, and Bell and Rupert. One report mentioned a sensational return of 14 oz. for a day's work, but this cannot be substantiated, and ' the most reliable estimate places the average for the week from nine to 11 oz. Both tunnels are driven under a very rich wash, and the bottom is still running level. It is stated that if the wash for both claims. were to eut out immediately (an eventuality not contemplated) the miners would still have wonderfully rich profits. There are further reports of a rich strike at Edmonds Point on theClntha on the site of the old dredging days, but while some encouraging prospects have heen obtained here, there is nothing yet to create a rush.
