JAMAICAN GARRISON ONLY CELEBRATING THEIR CHRISTMAS

Montreal, January 6. The disturbances in the Northumberland Regiment at Kingston (Jamaica) were an episode whieh might have oceurred in any garrison town around the Christmas or New Year holiday season, states a cable reeeived here to-day from the Jamaica Trade Development Board. There is no cause whatever, the cable sfated, for some of the alarmist reports whieh have been given out. A previous msesage stated that the soldiers of the Northumberland Fusiliers caused a disturbance on Monday night (January 2). After one of their comrades had been slain in a fight, they clashed with the police. During the melee several civilians and soldiers were injured. Considerable damage was also done to property.
