Rec. Jan. 5, 8.40 p.m. Perth, January 5. Advice receiyed from Forrest states that Pilot— Baker has succeeded in resctiing" Mr. P. Whelan, wh'o waS bearded and haggard and still suffering from an injured hip. Mr. Whelan told a tale of acute suffering and said, "I was almost finished when the Air Force aviators dropped water last Saturday. If it had fallen a yard further away, I would have been unable to reaeh it." : Pilot Baker accompanied by two Air Force machines, left Forrest at 5 a.m. and arrived over Whelan at 7.30 a.m. Luckily the wir;d was favourahle to a safe landing, and a few minutei lateq Pilot Baker's plane was in the air again w.ith' Mr. Whelan aboard.
