Marshal's Horse Removed Although souvenir kunting in Rotorua is quite a customary procedure, some person with an exeess of • enthusiasm has added variety to the hobby by stealing the mount used by the chief marshal of the Christmas Carnival. The horse, which is a bay, having three white feet and a white star on its face, was discovered missing from opposite the R.M. Buildings yesterday morning. Statutory Half-Holiday In accordance with the statutory procedure, a special meeting of the Rotorua County Council will be held on January 11 for the purpose of fixing the day on which the statutory half -holiday shall be held in the County of Rotorua. Tire Stolen From Camp For the theft of a motor tyre be- • longing to Gustav James Feil, at the municipal motor camp early yesterday morning, John Augustus Quinn was later arrested by Constables Kelly and Brown and brought before Mr. S. Quinn pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years' probation, in addition to being required to take out a prohibition order against himself. Orderly Crowd' Ah outstanding feature of the Christmas week celebrations was the fact that during the period no arrests for drunkenness or disorderly behaviour were made by the police. With such a large number of people In the town during the holidays this is an excellent record. Many Bathers One of the most popular rendezvous of visitors during the Christmas holiday period was the new main Blue Bath. Every day a never ending stream of bathers has been going to and from the bath which has been particularly well patronised at both day and evening sessions. The diving stage has proved particularly popular as also has the smaller pool among the children. Interesting Arrival Interesting arrivals in Rotorua yesterday were Sir Samuel and Lady Walder, of Sydney. Sir Samuel, who is the late Lord Mayor of Sydney, was created a Knight Bachelor in the i New Year honours, and on arrival in Rotorua yesterday was the reeipient of many telegraphic messages of congratulation from all parts of Australia. A Wonderful Service The excellent service given members of the Auckland Automobile Association camped at the Rotorua Municipal Motor Camp site by Mr. J. Rippon, patrolman for the assoeiation is a credit to the organisation of the association and the untiring work of its representative. On many occasions during the past week, Mr. Rippon's services have been called upon both day and night, and despite lack of sleep, these services have been given willingly and ungrudgingly.
