RESTAURANTS AND THEATRES IN CITY ARE CROWDED \ GALES SWEEP COUNTRY

-By Telegraph— Copyrlght).

Rec. Jan. 2, 9.45 p.m. London, January 2. London gave a joyous welcome to 1933. The restaurants, theatres and cinemas were crowded and the usual pilgrimage to St. Paul's was made despite the drizzling rain. From 11 o'clock onwards, the crowds thronging Ludgate Hill became less noisy and boisterous. As the New Year fell on a Sunday this led to earlier termination of festivities. Gales of great force swept many • parts, accompanied by torrential rain. Houses were flooded and shipping damaged.
