IN SERIOUS PLIGHT
— By Telegraph — nght>.
Melbourne, Dec. 30. The plight of Mr. P. Whelan, one of the passengers who had to be left behind in the desert wh'ere his aeroplane took the air after a forced landing, is serious, aecording to messages received by the Defence Department from Major Brearley of West Australia Airways. The department sent two Wapiti msrehines from Point Cooke to drop supplies to Whelan. Major Brearley says the only hope of saving Mr. Whelan is to keep on supplying water by air until the machines, assisted by a strong wind, can approach the edge of the lake and lift Whelan off.
