ENGLISH CRITICS FAVOUR THE AUSTRALIANS CHANCES BODY-LINE BOWLING

— By Telegraph — Copyrlght)

Sydney, Dec. 29. Test match prospeets are being freely discussed by all the newspapers. The criticism reflects nervousness and pessimism as far as the Australians are concerned. 1 The great difiieulty which f aees the selectors is emphasised by Mr. Artkur Mailey. Writing in the- Sun he says : "I am not af raid of England's batsjnen and fieldsmen, but I do think Larwood and Voce too good for the Australians on the Melbourne wickets. Mr. Mailey remarks that the selectors have an unenviabl'e task in view of the recent poor form of Woodfull, Ponsford, Bradman and Grimmett, and declares: "I certainly^ would not play Grimmett, O'Reilly and Ironmonger in the same team. I would give pref erence to the one who would forget maiden overs and who would try to coinpel tjie hatsmen to use their feet." t Neither the Australian nor the English team is ljkely to be announced bef ore Friday morning when the state qf the weather is ascertained. The London Morning Post expects the Australian team to be the stronger hoth batting and fielding. ; It says: "Bradman's 157 runs for New South Wales is surely proof that his health is restored and his batting as good as ever." An editorial describes "hody-line" bowling with a paeked leg field as a fearsome craz© and declares the plain truth is that Australia, like England of 10 years ago, has no fast howlers, so that Bradman cannot play this bowling very well. It is pace that kills in this case." The Daily Express describes Australian cricket news and its references to hody-line bowling as amusing. The paper believes that the Australians will repeat the poor show they made in Sydney. "It should be a great test match despite all the funny stuff the Australian people are pntting over."
