. ANTIQUE CARRIES OFF THE SUMMER CUP KING'S PLATE TO LA MODERNE Auckland, Wednesday. j The summer carnival of the Auckland Racing Club was continued today in fine weather before a good attendance. The course was in excellent order. Following are the results: — FERGUSSON HANDICAP. Of £200; 1 mile. 3— AGA KIIAN, 7.11 (R. W. McTavish) 1 5— DELRAIN, 8.5 (A. Tinker) 2 7— LORDLY KNIGHT, 9.1 (E. A. Keesing) 3 Also started: 1 Thespis, 8.12; 2 Carfex, 8.10; 4 H'olly Lu, 7.13; 8 Ruling ICing, F.5; 6 Sammy, 7.0. They left to a good start and went properly on their way. Thespis and Carfex were together in front with Lordly Knight following and Aga Khan and Sammy at the rear of the field. A little further on Aga Khan

improved his position and was third behind Lordly Knight and Delrain. Across the top Holly Lu was next with Carfex and Sammy all in handy positions. Lordly Knight was first into the straight with Delrain, Aga Rhan, Carfex and Thespis in hot pursuit. Aga Khan in the middle of the course, settled the leaders at the distancfe and passed the post one and a-quarter lengths ahead of Delrain with Lordly Knight half a length away. Holly Lu was fourth, Thespis and Carfex next, f ollowed by Sammy, with Ruling King a long way baclc last. Time, 1.38. THE KING'S PLATE. Of £350; weight-for-age; 1 mile. 5— LA MODERNE, 7.11 (S. Wilson) — — 1 2 — PILLOW FIGIIT, 8.2 (A. Tinker) - 2 4— TEA TRADER, 8.2 (K. Voitre) — 3 Also started: 1 Cadland, 9.2; 3 Golden Wings, 9.0; 6 Silver Ring, 8.2. Tea Trader quickly hit the front and at the end of a furlong was just clear of La Moderne and Golden Wings, who were racing on terms with Fillow Fight, Cadland and Silver Ring next. At the five-furlong post Tea Trader was pulling hard out in front and there was no alteration in the order as they approached the home

bend. Cadland and Silver Rmg were well back at this stage. In the straight Tea Trader still had charge with G olden Wings and La Moderne almost aiongside him. Pillow Fight was closing up and Cadland was eommencing a fast run on the outside. i La Moderne Shook off Tea Ti'ader half -way down the running and went on. to win by three lengths from Pillow Fight, who finished on well to beat Tea Trader for second place hy four lengths. Silver Ring came from a long way back to get fourth, Golden Wings and Cadland being together next. Time, 1.37. PONSONBY HURDLES Of £350; 2 miles. 5— IMPERIAL PRINCE, 9.0 (L. Dulieu) 1 4— ARCADE, 9.6 (P. Mcllroy) 2 8— HIGII PITCH, 10.1, car. 10.2 (R. Olive) 3 Also started: 1 Captain's Gift, 1 1.4; 2 Jayson, 10.8; 6 Blacksmith, 10.3; 3 Billy Boy, 10.1; 7 Sub-Editor, 9.0. Blacksmith led to the second fence with Jayson and Sub-Editor right at his heels. As they passed the stands for the first time Blacksmith was still the pilot from Arcade, Imperial Frince and Billy Boy. Captain's Gift i ell at the hurdle near the judge's box while Jayson was pulled up; his rider having lost an iron. Arcade hit the front along the back attended by Blacksmith, Billy Boy and Imperial Prince. With two fences to go Arcade was well clear, but Blacksmith came again to follow him into the straight, with Imperial Prince, High Pitch, Sub-Editor and Billy Boy in that order. Landing over the last hurdle safely Arcade looked to have

the race won at the distance, but weakened in the run home, and Imperial Prince got up to beat him hy three-quarters of a length. High Pitch was f otir lengths away in third place, and then came Sub-Editor, followed by Blacksmith ahd Billy Boy. Time, 3.43. SUMMER CUP Of £650; li miles. 2— ANTIQUE, 9.1 (R. S. Chromadyne took up the position of pacemaksr leading past the stands the first time from Great Star, Korokio, King's Knave, Eager Rose and Concsntrate. Along the back Eager Rose headed Chromadyne and the pair were attended by King's Knave, Korokio, Eager Rose and Jaloux at this stae-e. With half the iourney covered

Great Star was still howling along freely in front just ahead of Eager Rose, King's Knave, Jaloux and Chromadyne. As they neared the home bend Eager Rose went to the front. He piloted the field into the straight with Great Star and King's Knave prominent in a field that was bunching up fast. A great struggle ensued over the final furlong but as the leaders were fighting It out Antique came right through the field to , win by a neck from Concentrate who also appeared late on the 'scene. A length away Jaloux and Eager Rose deadheated for third plaoe and then came Great Emblem, Red Sun and Great Star. Time, 2.6. An Inquiry Held An inquiry was held into interference hy Pillow Fight with Cadland in "the King's Plate but the explanation of Pillow Fight's rider, A. Tinker was accepted. Pillow Fight got his tongue over the hit early in the race ,and ran about a good deal. CRITERION HANDICAP Of £300; 5 fur; 2-year-olds. 3— DOLE, 9.4— R. Reed 1 2— IMPASTO, 9.0— A. Tinker .... 2 6— PELAGIA, 7.3— K. Yoitre 3 Also started: 4 Guarantee, 9.4; 7 Pegged Exchange, 8.8; 1 Fracas, 8.7; 5 Bon Rapide, 7.12; 8 Deputy Ruler, 7.10; 12 Lorelle, 7.8; 9 Epigram, 7.5; 11 King Mester, 7.1; 10 Glenromney 7.0

Epigram was badly left and Dole was the early leader with Bon Rapide, Impasto and Pelagia heading the remainder. After two furlongs fiad been covered Impasto displaced Pelagia in second place and Fracas had moved up next Guarantee and Deputy Ruler following. Dole never let anything near him from then on and led into the straight clear of Impasto, Bon Rapide, Pelagia, Fracas and Guarantee. He went on to win nicely by two and a-half lengths from Impasto who was three lengths in advance of Pelagia. Guarantee was next followed hy Deputy Ruler, Bon Rapide and King Mestor. Time, 59 3-5. WAITEMATA HANDICAP Of £200; 11 miles. 8— PSYCHOLOGIST, 8.0 1 1 — MASTER BRIERLY, 7.12 .... 2 2 — KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA, 8.12 3 Also started: Jonathan, 9.0; Grand Spirit, 8.3; Sunny Bachelor, 7.12; Grand Review, 7.10; Belltopper, 7.10; Operatie, 7.2; Roxy, Marching Song, Glenhaupo, Gay Broney, Transaetion, Reclaimer, 7.0. * Won hy a neck; 12 lengths. There was a lot of bumping m the Waitemata Handicap1, of which Grand Review got the worst. Marching Song was the early leader from Belltopper, Sunny Bachelor, Jonathan, Grand Spirit, Master Brierly (the favouriie), Reclaimer and Roxy. Marching Song, Psychologist and Belltopper, made the pace with Master Brierly in attendance. Psychologist came on to win, paying double figures, from Master Brierly, with Knight of Australia, Sunny Bachelor, Belltopper, Transaetion and Gay Broney following.

ELECTRIC HANDICAP Of £400; 6 furs. 2— EXAGGERATION, 7.2 1 1— THE QUORN, 8.2 2 3— ARISUS, 8.12 3 Also started: All Humbug, Lack, 7.6; Karangapai, 7.0. Won hy three-quarters of a length; 12 lengths. Time 1.13'. The spring withdrawals reduced the Electric Handicap field to six. The Quorn was a hot favourite, but had to strike his colours to Exaggeration. Lack was the first away from Arisus, Exaggeration, The Quorn, Karangapai and All Humbug. The latter ran up second at the turn, but Exaggeration. prevailed over The Quorn. Arisus was third. PLUNKET HANDICAP Of £300; 1 mile. 6— MERRY DAMON, 8.8 1 2— L'ALLEGRO, 8.6 2 8— CHIEF JOY, 8.0 3 Also started: Cricket Bat, 9.7; | King's Archer, 8.8; Lord Val, 8.1; ! i Whakapara, 7.11; Jalldy* Karo, Llan5 ■ ore, 7.7. j 1 Won by two lengths; two lengths. ; | Time 1.38. ; I When called upon, Merry Damon, \ ! who was last most of the way, made j ! no race of the Plunket Handicap. ; !
