HURLING BALL DIRECTLY AT THE MAN'S BODY A FRANK CRITICISM
-By Telegraph — Copyrlght)
Wellington, Wednesday. Mr. Walter Fuller, who is well known in theatrical circles and has returned from an extended visit to Australia, says the shock tactics of the English cricketers are something to he reckoned with. "In the pabt there has been a leg theory' and £off theory' in bowling, but these have usually been dropped with medium-paced or slow-break bowlers. Now you have men like Larwood and Vooe, real express bowlers, who howl for the man at such a pace that you cannot follow the ball. "I firmly helieve that Ponsford, Woodfull, and some others, had the 'wind up' as there was no let up. Each ball seemed to be hurled directly at their hodies, not at the wickets, and the result was the batsmen were too scared 'to play them as they would ordinary bowling." Mr, Fuller added, "If New Zealand is going to malce any sort of stand against England's fast bowlers I would advise that our men allow the bowlers to bowl as hard as they can at the body of the batsmen in practice; otherwise they will never know how to face Larwood and Voee."
