THE CARNIVAL TO-DAY
DRESS FOR THE PART To-day carnival will begin in earnest and' to assure himself of the loyalty of his subjects, His Majesty, King Carnival, will send his henchmen abroad during the afternoon to deal summarily with all those in responsible positions who are not being irresponsible for the day and wearing fancy costume. There is no need to join the Doukhobors, or the Pipe Band, but all businessmen who fail to put on King Carnival's uniform during the day will be haled before him and fined in the interests of mirth and injustice. The popular idea that the proceeds will go to the consolidated fund is incorrect; they will actually go to the Mayor's fund for the relief of distress among the unemployed. In the evening, will come one of the big events of the week, the carnival ball, when all present are invited to make whoopee and give their college yell (outside the hearing of the committee). Persons appearing undisguised' at the ball must take the consequences. Masks should be worn as a precaution.
