HITLERITE PLOT

PLAN TO IMPRISON HUN LEADERS LEAKS OUT. Berlin, Saturday. The astounding story of a Hitlerite 1 plot to make President Hindenhurg ; a prisoner, and compeLhim to agree j to a dictatorship is told by one of the soberest of German papers, Der Deut1 sche, the organ of the former Centrist Minister of Labour, Herr Stegerwald. j The paper says that "certain circles," to which "Storm Detachment" leaders belong, "played with this idea early in the year." The Dictator was not to be Herr Hitler or Herr Strasser, bnf his identity is not revealed. President Hindenhurg was to be made a prisoner on his East Pfussia estate, Neudeck. "Whether the War Ministry knew , anything of the plan," says the paper, "we do not know, hut presumahly it ' had its suspicions. It is also to be assumed that the decision to forbid the 'Storm Troops' was connected with the leaking out of the plan, for it was thus made clear that Herr Hitler no longer had these troops firmly in hand.." Wires to be Cut. j Another- version of the conspiracy i is 'given hy the Acht Uhr Abenhlatt. I It asserts the coupi was to have been ' effected hetween the last Reichstag election on July 31 and the reception of Herr Hitler by the President on August 13. The paper adds: "Radical ; elements in the East Prussian storm ' detaehments are b'elieved to have intended to seize President Hindenhurg by force and compel him to appoint Herr Hitler Chancellor. I . "Among other things, it was intend- • ed to cut the wire connections between • Neudeck, where President Hindenhurg was then living and Berlin, and thus prevent him from communicating with the outside world. "The plan, however, leaked out, and the authorities took precautions. Moreover, the party leadership .seems to have realised the madness of such radical designs and to have intervened."
