Te Puke^ Tuesday. A farmer, Edward Breach, aged 32, was drowned at 11.30 a.m. at Maketu Beaeh, nine miles from Tei Puke., He was bathing near the mouth of the Kaituna River, with others, when he got into difficulties. Mr. Eric J. Lesner, of Te Puke, went to his assistance, but owing to the strong current was himself in difficulties and_had to receive help. Meanwhile Mr. Breach had disappeared. Willing helpers, numbering about 250, using boats, drag-nets, etc., searched for him, but without avail. No trace of the body had been discovered up to noon to-day. Mr. Breach^ who lived in No. 1 Road, Te Puke, was a married man with no family. He had only recently arrived in the district. A heavy easterly sea caused difficulties all along the coast, and at Mount Maunganui several bathers had to receive help from the Te Puke lifesa'ving team.
