"In frightful martyrdom in the cause of science," was among the tributes paid to the great French radiologist, Georges Sharet, who died while studying to the- last the effects of a disease of his own flesh, contracted by a radium burn contracted in war time. He had since undergone many operations, but had continued on the work of radium research in furthering the cause of humanity despite his own suffering. After one of. his most se.vere operations, the late M. Doumer, then president of France, pinned the Legion of Honour on his breast.
