BOXING DAY SPORTS

ROTORUA CLUB MANY VISITING ATHLETES ENTERED FOR EVENTS HANDICAPS DECLARED Probably one of the most suceessful carnival attractions to be held iii Rotorua next week will be the special sports meeting of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club which will take plaee on Monday next, Boxing Day. Last year the first- of these annual fixtures proved the possibility of the amateur sport beeoxning . popular in the town and the meeting was very suceessful and added yet one more attraction for visitors during the holiday period. Sincfe fthe commencement of the present season remarkable progress and interest has been shown in the club's activities and as a result the coming carnival meeting is even more extensive than last year and good entries have been received for all events. Among the many visiting competitors are S. A. Black (New Plymouth) N.Z. quarter mile record holder and Olympic representative, J. W. Shirley (Hamilton) N.Z. hurdles ehampion, T. K. Cambie, who is well lcnown in Hawera as a fine trackman and opponent for Black, and many others from Hawera, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Auckland. The Rotorua club is itself well represented and two visiting lady runners, Miss K. Peterson and Miss E. Reid, of Hawera, are also engaged in the ladies' events. The expenses incurred in providing trophies for a meeting of such a size is considerable, but by the generosity of business people and enthusiasts in the town, valuable assistance has this year been accorded the club by donations of trophies. For this assistance the club is indebted to Mr. D. A. Cambie, who is largely rasponsible for the support received. Those who have presented valuable trophies and donations for competition at the meeting are as follows: Messrs E. C. Adolph, C. Anaru, Bonnington. J. B. Bates, Dr. H. Bertram, S. Brooker L. J.
