GAY SCENE AT SCHOOL FANCY DRESS BALL

The Regent Hall on Friday evening presented quite a gay scene, when over 200 children paraded in fancy dress. The hall was decorated with native greenery, and dancing for the young folk commenced at 8 o'cloek and continued until ten o'clock, when the adult portion of the programme was carried out. Miss Del Thompson acted as judge, awarding the prizes as follows: — Best dress, Danda Flynn "Harem Girl"; most original, Phyliss Codd, "Strawberry and Cream"; most humorous, June Taylor, "Dismal Desmond"; boys' best dress, Roy Ilemmings, "King of Clubs"; most original, Mervyn Kilgour, "Scarecrow"; humorous, Keith Kilgour, "John Citizen"; tiny tots' prize, girl, Maureen Goodrick, "Toy Soldier"; boys, Jimmy West, "Micky Mouse." A Monte Carlo polka resulted in a win for Molly Goodin and Gwen Doldy. During the evening a special presentation was made to Mervyn Alcock as a reward for attending school for five years without the loss of a single half-day. The Board of Education sent a let- ■ ter of congratulation to Mervyn, who was hcartily cheered by his school friends. Proficiency eertificates were presented to the following: — Muriel Dahlin, Alice Kilgour, Gwen Lockwood, Gwen Doldy, Elaine Bunting, Dorothy Jones, Roy Hemmings, Una Pachond, Oliver Carron, Burton Manning. The winner of the criclcet cake, drawn during the evening, was Jack Agnes, No. 66. The school cake, presented by Mr. McPherson, was won by a Rotorua l esident, taking No. 106, The name written was in pencil and is not able to be deciphered. If the person who drew 106 will communicate with the secretary, School Committee, Mamaku, the cake will be forwarded. If no claim is made by Deeember 24 the cake will be sent to King George V. Hospital for the patients' benefit.
