OPOTIKI PA^TY ENTERTAINED HOSPITABLY BY MAORIS

Two car loads from Opotiki visited the Matahi Mission School children 011 Saturday and spent the day at the pa. Nurse Doull was present together with Mrs. Weadell from Broadway, Dunedin (wife of the late Dr. Ruther- j ford Weadell), and her sister, Miss | Dunean. ! The Maoris prepared a dinner of 1 roast fowls and potatoes, cooked in the Maori style, and which they served at 3 p.m. The Maori children gave a concert consisting of songs and poi dances on the verandah of the meeting liouse. One of the songs wus composed by Nurse Doull herself. A presentation of two handsome Maori kits was made to Mrs. Weadell and Mrs. J. G. Murray (Opotiki), the Busy Bee leaders. The visitors met Rua and seven of his wives during their visit to Matahi. Before leaving for home, Mr. J. G. Gow made a speech which was interpreted by one of the Maoris, in which he mentioned the friendly relations; between Maori and Pakehas and urged the Maoris to help Nurse Doull in her great work for the missions. Mrs. Weadell will he spending next week-end at •Opotiki.
