NEW YORK'S HOTELS B1REPARE FOR BEER. VANDERBILT BAR REMODELLED New York, Saturday. This city, which never "did go dry, but Suffere'd greatly from the quality oL its brew, began hopefully to-day to prepare for real beer. Leading local brewers talked of "'beer by Christmas." Wine merehants ' of others days emerged from retirement heartened by the recent wet vote. Along Broadway "beer leases" were the order of the day and the famous hotels of the city began to loolc to their bar-rooms and bars. Five local brewers announced expenditures of "inore than £1,400,000 in anticipation of a revi'sion' of the Volstead law. Distillery, bottle and kindred by-product shares perked 'up' bh the stock market. Trucking fleets and coperage coinpanies were ordered to stand in readiness for the great day. Workmen were busy this afternoon installing hu'ge 'beer coolers and a half dozen spigot pumps in the historic 75-*foot horseshoe in the Vanderbilt hotel. This famous old gathering place was remodelling its bar for 'the sake of preparedness," according to Mr. ,Walter Ma/rshall, manager of the hotel. Mr. Louis H. S. Mouquin, the importer, has had new wine lists printed, but he anticipates a bit of trouble before his champagnes, burgundies and skuternes begin to flow acfosS the Atlantic.
