BOXING" DAY SPORTS VISITING CCMPETITORS FROM ALL PARTS OF NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONS COMPETING Tho interest attracted by the carnival sports meeting to be held by the 'Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling' Club at the Government Grounds on Monday next, Boxing 'Day, can now be well judged by the nurnber of entries which have been received from competitors, both from Rotorua and other towns where 'the sport is popular. Relay teams are entered to represent the Hawera, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Rotorua clubs and included in these teams are .many athletes well known in Dominion athletic circles. " The Rotorua team will be selected from J. Pennington, A. Lillas, M. Herewini, H. Steele, Young and Dorset. Indications of the present form of some of the best known visitors may be judged from the fact tbat in at loast two cases, visiting athletes bave advised the handicapper of their desire to be handicapped to do their respective distances in fast time, Of these, S.^ A. Blaek, New Plymouth, expects to cover the quarter-mile in the good time of 52sec. In the last New Zealand championships at Auckland, Black won the quarter-mile in the New Zealand record time of 48 3-5sec. Recently he ran the 100yds. in lOsec. off 2yds. and the 220yds. in 22 4-5sec. J. W. Shirley (Hamilton), expects to jump 5ft. 8in. in the high jump, 21ft. in the broad jump, 44ft. in the hop, step and jump, and under 17sec. for the 120yds. liurdles. He also expects to cover 130ft. with the javelin.

Many other visiting competitors are also expectejl to register very fine performances and with the improved form of the local cltib members, the contests should be full of interest.
