DARGAVILLE RACES owner, trainer, jockeys « and horse all penalised RUNNING IN PRESIDENT'S

— By Telegrapli — CopyrJglit)

Auckland, Monday, Disqualifications were imposed by the Judicial committee of the Dargaville Racing Club as the result of further inquiries into the running of the President's Handicap at Dargaville on December 3. The following are the disqualifications : — The horse, Bronze Tray, three years. R. A. Powell, Whangarei, the owner of Bronze Tray, three years. C. R. Powell, brother of R. A. Powell, three years. H. Gray, trainer, three years. A. G. Mnrray, jockey, three years. L. Clifford, jockey, one year. The grounds for the disqualifications were that the persons named were guilty of corrupt and fraudulent practice hy conspiring to assist Tetrachate to win. ^ ^ The President's Handicap, which carried stakes of £125, and was run over a distance of nine furlongs, resulted as follows: 4 Alloy, first; 1 Tetraehate, second; and 5 Hannibal, third. Also started: 3 Bronze Tray; 2 Thespis. AVon by half a length, a neclc. Time 2-1 4-5. The race was the slowest seen on an Auckland course for a long time. The only excitement in the contest was when Alloy ran past the odds-on favourite, Tetrachate, in the straight and beat him by half a length. From the start, Tetrachate set a slow pace, and along the back was about two lengths ahead of Alloy, with Thespis, Hannibal and Bronze Tray following at intervals. The field was spread out considering the slow pace made, and Tetrachate appeared certain to win when he came into the straight a good two lengths clear of Alloy and Hannibal, who swept wide round the turn. However, Tetrachate was finishing weakly in the circumstances and Alloy beat him comfortably by half a,' length, Hannibal was a neck away third, with Thespis and Bronze Tray following. The value of form in the race may be gauged from the fact that nine furlongs took 2 minutes 1 4-5seconds, while Lady Vane won a mile race later in the day in 1 minute 41 l-5seconds. Gay Idea, accepted for the Auckland Cup, will now be unable to start as she is owned by Mrs. M. W. Powell, wife of C. R. Powell.
