payment to britain DOMINION OFFERS TO RESUME PRE-MORATORIUM ARRANGEMENT ASSISTANCE TENDERED

— By Telegraph — Copy right).

Wellington, Sunday. An offer by the New Zealand Government to resume liability for war debt payments to Great Britain suspended under the Hoover moratorium, a concession granted on _ the ; continued moratoriunr*by the United i States, is contained in a cable- from the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, to the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. J. H. Thomas. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in a statement, says the Hoover moratorium has now expired, and last week the British Government was obliged to make heavy ! payments to the United States on ac- ! count of war debts. Although the Bri- I tish" Government has previously signi- j fied its willingness to continue the f moratorium in respect to New Zealand obligations, the New Zealand Government considers it should not accept without question this most generous offer. Mr. Forbes added that he was confident that the people of New Zealand, despite the diffieulties confronting tliem, would wholeheartedly approve the Government's action.
