In all probability, the hulk of the entries will he from contiguou3 elubs Tbut the entry will he open to all. Bopking Eighty Per Gent. „ ; . Enquiries around the private and public hotels , reveal a strong spirit of ' optimism among the proprietors. With one or two exceptions they report that the bookings for accommodation are far ahead of those for last season. Not only are there more people coming to Rotorua, but they are making, on an average, longer stays. Eighty per cent. of the houses visited, report full bookings for the next six weeks. Tidying Up The Pa Whakarewarewa is a seene of activity these days and not only in the hot water and steam lines. Gangs pf Maoris are engaged in ereeting liew fences around the native village and also in repainting the meeting house and flag staff whilst others are busy straightening up the paths and tidying the place generally. When one Maori was digging a post hole yesterday he stuek his spade into a hot pool. That is why one of the posts in the fence is out of alignnvent. Visiting Bandsmen When it was announced that the Auckland watersiders hand was to visit Rotorua, the billetting of the members was necessary and the borough soon provided accommodation. The next question was that of meals. This arranges for thirty of the men, butthere are still one or two for whom provision must be made. New Bowling Centre Mooted A suggestion which is of great in~ terest to all bowlers in the iRotorua and Bay of Plenty districts is to be discussed during the tournament for the Frantis Cup which is held at Te Puke during the New Year holidays. This is the formation of a new bowling centre which will comprise the Bay of Plenty and the Rotorua dis-' triets. The matter is favourably looked upon in Rotorua bowling circles and is said to be quite in accord with ideas in the Bay. A strong and enthusiastie centre should result with benefits to both disfcficts, Too Realistie Two canine actors, appearing in important seenes of Ruth Chatterton's new starring Paramount pieture "The Magnifieent Lie" which shows at the Majestic Theatre on Sunday next at 8.30 p.m. became enthusiastieally exeited when they heard their own baying translated by the microph'one. The studio was immediately thrown into an uproar. Berthold Viertel, the direetor, ordered a playhack of scenes already filmed. But, as the baying of dogs came from the amplifier, the canine actors, heretofore interested only in making friends with some "extras" in a far corner, bristled suddenly and growled. One of the dogs leaped into the horn of the amplifier, the other cireled madly ahout the apparatus, both barking furiously at the unseen hounds. Francis Cup Defenders The Rotorua Bowling Club in- j tends to send two teams to Te Puke to defend the Francis Cup at new year. The teams will be skipped by Mr. A. French (the present holder) and Dr. Bertram. Mr. French's team will consist of Messrs. Braekebush, Moreland and another, and Dr. Bertram's team of Messrs. Butt. Budd and J. McDowell. Caddies' Tournainjent > To-day will see the final of the Rotorua Golf Club's tournament for its caddies. In this, S. Bergham ; meets P.' Vaughan. Full particulars appear on the front page of this issue* Special Talent Search Intensive sehrch' for an actress fitted to play one of the important roles in Ruth Chatterton's new starring Paramount picture, "The Magnifieent Lie," which shows at the Majestic Theatre to-morrow night, resulted on Francoise Rosay, noted figure on the French stage, being assigned to the part.
