SCHOOL DANCE PLAIN AND FANCY * . DRESS BALL. A spirit of revelry iand gaiety pervaded the Majestic Ballroom last Friday evening, when the Rotorua High' School old and present pupils in oonjunction beld their annual plain and fancy dress hall. The gay decorations, together with the bright array of frocks, presented -a most pleasing and colourful spectacle. At 9 p.m. the grand march assemhled and for a time commanded the floor while the judges selected th'e various prize-winners — a difficult matter, especially in the original class, a3 there were isom,e very clever costumes. These days, a fancy dress hall is hardly ;ever complete without a mic-key-mouse, and the High School dance was no exception, but, .alas, Mickey will have to extend his wiles a little further next time • as Miss Clothesline (Florence Holden) won the honours for the most original costume in the march. The second prize in the girls' original class went to Kathleen Goudie, representing British" Goods. In the boys' original section, a lack •of detail was shown and only one prize was awarded, that going to Roy Pilkington for his conception of a buccaneer. Black-eyed Topsy of Uncle Tom's Cahin fame, interpreted byJuliet Perkins, claimed the prize for th'e best character costume, and the judg'e, Mrs. H. Bertram, presented a prize to Lucy Butt for her excellent costume of a Gollowog.
