Cycling Handicaps The handicaps declared for the two cycling events at the Rotorua Anaateur Athletic and Cycling Club's evening meeting to-morrow night are as follows. One Mile Handicap: M. Bell, scr; C. Clark, 25yds; R. Haycock, 65 yds; S. Howe, C. Head, 80yds; H. Bellini 100yds; N. Howe 130yds; H. McCall 140yds; J. Lewis 170yds. Two Miles Handicap: M. Bell scr, C. Clark 35yds, R. Haycock 120yds; C. Head, 180yds; H. Bellini 190yds; S. Howe 200yds; N. Howe 235 yds; H. McCall 260yds, J: Lewis 300yds.

Carnival Advertising In order to advertise the New Year Carnival the Borough Amusement Committee has had a very attractive"sticker" printed in blue and gold. These "stickers" are for appending to the backs of letters, etc., and serve as an excellent means of focnssing attention on the carnival. They are free to any business people who wish to make use of them and anybody who has not yet reeeived a supply may do so on application to the town clerk.

Proficiency Results Following are the names of the pupils of the Whakarewarewa Primary School presented for the proficiency examination, all being successful. Leslie O'Connor, Clarence Balzer, Kihi Iharaira, Alfred C. Relph, Doreen Richardson, Susan Rikihana, Eric W. Newman, Phyllis H. Robinson, Benedict ICarl. Beautifying Whaka Cr. G. Urquhart told the Rotorua Borough Council last night that the natives of Whaka pa had agreed to contribute £50 towards cleaning up and beautifying the pa. Cr. H. Tai Mitchell had informed him that the contribution was being made by the Arawa Trust Board, but it was desired that the council supply the stone required for the improvement works. Second-Hand Dealer's License At last night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council a second-hand dealer's license was granted to William Fairweather. Rotoroua Broadcast Mr. R. P. Spedding has arranged with the controllers of Station 1YA to deliver a brief description of the attractions of Rotorua during Carnival weelc. This will take place at 7.30 this evening. Save the Trees Dealing with the proposal to prune trees for the clearance of electric lines at the Rotorua Borough Council Jast night, Cr. E. T. Johnson advanced the suggestion that in future the department should endeavour to nlace lines in the rear of sections so that the trees in the streets might not be interfered with. He moved in that direction. Cr. G. Urquhart seconded the motion which was carried. Sunday Pictures On Sunday evening next the people of Rotorua will have an opportunity of witnessing a first class motion - picture and at the same time assisting in a worthy attempt to lighten the load over the holiday season for those citizens who are in need and who, ordinarily, can look forward to a meagre festival period. The Rotorua Rotary Club has taken the initiative and with the assistance of Mr. A. MacDermott has arranged to screen Ruth Chatterton's notable picture "The Magnificent Lie." This is one of the star pictures produced by Paramount in recent years and has created a furore of enthusiasm in the centres. By being able to see this production at the low price of 1/- Rotorua picturegoers are in luclc's way and the promoters of the entertainment feel that this fact will be appreciated and that Rotorua will once again rally wholeheartedly to assist a worthy cause. The box plan for circle reserves is now open at Miss MacDermott's and intending patrons are urged to hook early.

Display of Furs An extensive variety of high class fur coats, stoles, chokers, sets and ! rugs are at present being display ed at Heywood and Amson's Auction Mart, .Tutaneltai Street, and will be on sale every day this weelc at greatly reduced prices. The furs are the product of the National Fur Coy., Auckland, a written guarantee being given to the purchaser by this firm which guarantees the life of its goods up to 10 years. On Saturday the display will definitely conclude with an auction sale of remaining stock*
