RETALIATION

MASTER BAKERS TO ACT AGAINST CHAIN STORES A meeting thoroughly representative of the Master Bakers operating* in Tauranga, Te Puke, Whakatane and Matata was held in Whakatane at the week-end. Main inte-rest centred around a discussion of the operations of chain stores in the Bay and the effect their entry into the bread trade was lilcely to have on those engaged solely in the manufacture and distribution of bread, Reports were made of the damage which had been expei'ienced by established bakers in other districts following on the advent of the chain stores into other trade. A proposal to refuse supplies to such stores was heartily supported and adopted.
