SUPPLEMENTARY VOTE interesting details with regard to special grants COSTS OF COMMISSI0NS
Wellington, Wednesday. In the supplementary estimates the votes for the ordinary revenue aeeount total £133,510, and votes under the Public Votes Fund amount to £59,347. The following items of interest are taken from estimates: A vote of £500 has been made for the additional expenses of delegates to the Disarmament Conference. Misappropriations from the High Commissioner's offico are covered by £2,666. A grant of £365 is made to the v.'idow of the late Mr. G. C. C. Black (member for Motueka). The expenses of the visit to the
C ook Islands of the Minister of Native Atfairs and his private secretary, are set down at £102. An amount of £300 is provided to meet the eost of the Motueka byclection. The additional expenses of the Mortgagors' Relief Commissions are shown at £5000. An additional sum of £650 is voted to the Police Department for expenses in eonnection with street riots and disorders. Provision is made for the expenditure of £550 on the repair of earthouake damage at Wairoa. The vote of the Department of I.ands and Survey includes a vote of £500 for compensation for land t ikcn in eonnection with the Waitangi Reserve and a further vote of £250 for the renovation of buildings, fences, etc. There is a vote of £10,000 (addi1 onal) for the carriage of lime for I ona fxde farmers, and £5000 (additional) for subsidies to manufacturers of su])crphosplxates. Provision is made for £70,000 for the purchase of milling wheat in Australia, but it is estimated that this amount. will be returned to the Crown. An additional sum of £1100 is included in the Mines Department vote as a. bounty to the Onakaka Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. A sum of £1,358 D provided in the Post Office Account for additional interest payahle to the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Co., Ltd., on radio I'censf foos not paid over. The cost in eonnection with the cstabKshment of the State Advances Commission a.gencies is shown as £1780. Items of inlerest from the Unauthorised Expenditure Account include the following: Expenses of the Comptroller of Customs on the delegation to Honolulu in eonnection with the riew Zealand-Canadian trade treaty, 1240 ls Pd. Expenses of the Minister 'f Customs and party to Honolulu £617 15s. 6d. Potatoes supplied to indigent natives, £635 3s 8d.
