NEW MINISTERS
LEESTON RESIDENTS HONOUR REY. J. C. YOUNG PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. CALLED TO ROTORUA. The high esteem and popularity with which the Rev. J. C. Young is held, not only among members of his own church in the Leeston parish. but by members of other churches in the district, were fully demonstrated at the Town Hall at Leeston last night, says the Ellesmere Guardian of November 22. The building was filled to capacity by those wishing to participate in the publie expression of their ragard to Mr Young and to take the opportunity of testifying to their appreciation of the valuable services he had rendered to the community during the seven years of his ministry in Leeston. Among the representatives of other congregations who were present were the Rev. J. A. Allen, Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery, the Rev. Mr. Aitken, Clerk lo the Presbytery, Revs. N. Friberg (Church of England), F. B. Lawi'ence (Methodisir), and Captain Rawcliffe (Salvation Army). Mr. and Mrs. Young, sen., were also present. i The Rev. W. G. Hannah, who presided, expressed their personal regret at the departure of Mr. and Mrs Young. Mrs. Martin, on behalf of the women of the parish, declared that Mr. and Mrs Young had gained the esteem and regard of the whole congregation. Mr. J. B. Anderson, session clerk, on behalf of the Leeston and Killinchy congregations, praised Mr Young's activities. Speaking for the Brookside congregation, Mr. J. Boag expressed sorrow at losng Mr. and Mrs. Young. Mr. E. Houston, representing the Bible elasses and Sunday school, said Mr. and Mrs. Young had won a position of high regard °in the parish.
The Rev. J. A. Allan. Modei'ator of the Christchurch Presbytery, remarked that it was a fine experience to listen to the beautiful and sincere tributes made to Mr. Young, to hear a congregation speaking in that way about their minister and of the love and honour with which they had surrounded him. Other speakers were Mr. John His- ( lop, representing country residents; I Mr. William Johnson, chairman of the Leeston Town Board; Rev. J. B. Lawrence, Methodists; Miss Batchelor and Mr. D. Lane. Young Peoples' Bible Classes; Mr. J. A. Aldridge, Dunsandel; Mr. Adam McPherson, Southbridge; Mossrs. G. Winter and W. McLaughlin^ Leeston. In his reply, Mr. 'Young expressed warm thanks for the help given him by the office-bearers and congregation as a whole.
