BANDS CENSURED BY N.Z. CONTROLLING BODY
. — By Telegraph — Copyright)
Wellington, Tuesday. The New Zealand controlling body decided to reprimand the Wellington Artillery, the Royal Naval Reserve, the Miramar, and the W ellington Boys' Institute Bands, in consequence of cei'tain breaches of the rules at the Wairarapa contest. The first prize for the selection contest was awarded to Masterton, and the second prize to Carterton. These bands had tied for third place. The C. & Y. Shield trophy, for the winner of the test selection, is not to be awarded. The president of the association, Mr. C. Bennett, said the practice of playing unaffiliated bandsmen at contests was always a source of trouble, especially as provision was made in the rules for consideration of an application for an extra man in case of accident or sickness. The breaches at Masterton were neither exceptional nor isolated. It is only a year or so, however, since separate island control was merged into one body, and it was intended to broolc no continuance of a practice too often winked at in the past.
