County Meeting Date Altered.' Owing to the fact that the county chairman, Mr. H. P. Ford, will he away for the ordinary meeting of the Rotorua County Council which is due to be held next Wednesday, the date of the meeting has been altered to Monday. Ohinemutu Sewerage It is the intention of the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, while visiting Wellington this weelc, to interview the Minister for Native Affairs, the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata, with regard to the provision of a sewerage system'for Ohinemutu. Rotorua on the Air The beauties of Rotorua and -its attractions are to be the subject of a talk by the Mayor, Mr. Thos. Jackson, who will broadcast from- 2YA Wellington at 7.40 p.m. on Thursday. Last Thursday Mr. R. P. Spedding, of Rotorua, was one of the speakers from 1YA Auckland and dealt with the holiday attractions of the town. ->
Premier of Tonga Advice has been received that the Hon. Tugi, Premier of Tonga, and his son Prince Taufa'ahua, will be- arriving in Auckland per the s.s. Karetu," due to-day. The Hqn. Tugi is Prince Gonsort. The Premier's visit is more or less of a private nature. After spending a few days in Auckland it is his intention to proceed to the country. More will be known after his arrival here about the duration of his stay in New Zealand and the centres he intends visiting. Plenty of Grass There is a splendid growth of feed on the Ngakuru settlement at present. The pastures are still lush and do not appear, so far, to have suffered from the dry spell. Bush Accident A resident of Mokai, "VVilham Mason, was admitted to King George V Hospital yesterday evening with a severe gash in his left foot, caused by his axe slipping while bushfelling. A number of stitches were put in the wound and the patient is reported to be in a satisfactory conditiOn. Co-operation Soughfc It has been decided by the Rotorua Unemployment Committee to make an earnest effort to secnre seasonal work for those men in the town who are making a hard fight to keep off the unemployment register. A circular letter is being sent to the Chamber of Commerce and Retailers' Association, the Farmers' Union and Citizens' Club, soliciting their co-operation in finding wprk. It is pointed out that in addition to the usual relief workers (totalling approximately 600) there are about 150 skilled men who need assistance in the way of employment. The local unemployment committee is prepared to provide lahour bureau facilities at its office to help the movement. The Barber's Joke The following authentic "chow" story comes from Hastings. John had dropped iri at the barber's shop for. a shave. The two were old friends and the barber talked jocularly of cutting his customer's throat. John thought it quite a good joke and laughed heartily at it. The barber thought the joke a good one too, and decided to carry it a step further. After dipping the blade of the razor into boiling water, he passed behind his customer and drew the baek of the still dripping razor round John's throat. For one second John appeared to be paralysed with fright then as he felt the drips trickling down his neck he leapt from the chair with a wild cry and fled down the street with towel and barber's apon flying in the wind behind him. Function for St. Joseph's A sale of work is to be held in the Peerless Theatre next Saturday when the proceeds will be utilised in aid of the Sisters of St: Joseph' Convent. Old Pupils Entertain At the Majestic Ballroom on Friday evening next, the Rotorua High School Old Pupils' Association is providing a plain and fancy dress dance for the present pupils and all interested in the school. An energetic committee has arrangements in hand and as is usual with all the functions of the association, it is neglecting no avenue of making the dance a most enjoyable and fitting conclusion to the school year: Present pupils are being catered for from 7.30 to 10 p.m., after which the adults will have the full use of the floor until one a.m.
