SWIMMING CLUB
SECOND CARNIVAL TO BE HELD IN BLUE BATH DURING CHRISTMAS WEEIC STATEMENTS IN INTERVIEW Mr. W. L. Riehards (president), presided over a mee.ting of the Rotorua Amateur Swimming Club held last evening. It was decided that a swimming earnival in connection with the Christmas earnival celebrations be held in the large Blue Bath on Tuesday night, December 27. Messrs- L. Fisher, A. Walden, R. I. Dansey, L. H. Gresham and II. Willcinson (secretary) were appointed a committee to make final arrangements, and it was decided to send invitations to all affiliated clubs in the Auckland and Bay of Plenty provinces. A list of events will be published at an early date, and it is anticipated that a great deal of interest will be taken in the earnival, Considerable discussion centred around an interview which appeared in the "Morning Post" on November 29, with Mr. Stuart Wilson, wherein Mr. Wilson stated that he considered from reports which had come to his knowledge regarding charges asked by the Tourist Department for the use of the large Blue Bath pool on Boxing Night, that these were excessive. Members stated that they realised that the Department was under a considerable obligation to the general public on a holiday occasion such as Boxing Day, and that in giving over the bath to a swimming enterprise, it Is possiblc that the Department would be cailed upon to make some financial acrifice in order to encoutage a func.ion which would probably have a benefic-ial advertising affect. Appreciatioii was also expressed of the Department';; action in allowing 1 ihe club the use of the small Blue j Bath for the reeent earnival for the low price of 30s. It was stated also that if the swiming eiub had any representations to nake regarding charges, it would ;>v. of all make them direct to the hourist Department through the regular channel before resorting to enhst })ublic sympathy through the Ti.o following nicti on was ihen s.-sed: "Tha; '.ris club wishes to h a;-:.- oeiate it :elt from the rcmarks •v.aiU. by Mr. Stuart Wilson in an inierv:ew appenring in the "Morning l-Vst" on November 29, 1932, and expresses its appreciation of the fair (reatment extended hy the Tourist Department to the swimming club in the past.
