SPIRIT FROM COAL
The possibilities of the recdvery of motor spirit by gas companies from coal used in the production of gas are being investigated in Australia. The biggest gas company in London has erected a plant for th'e recovery of motor spirit, and obtains something Hke two gallons and a half to three gallons per ton bf coal treated. From rough calculations which had been made it was estimated that about 3,000,000 gallons of motor spirit could be recovered in Australia iii this way. The Government has asked the principal gas companies in each State whether th'ey would be prepared to undertake the production of motor spirit pn.isimilar lines to those, adoptted by the gas company in London.The motor spirit obtained in London is stated to be of the highest possible grade. ■ V_.
