FEILDING PROSPECTS FORM DISCUSSED IN THE PRINCIPAL EYENTS. POSSIBILITY IN CUP.
(Notes by
The Feilding Jockey Club's spring fixture, to be held to-day and tomorrow, is one of the most important in th'e middle part of the North Island, for it still retains its classic contest and generally draws good; fields in the other events. There arej at least a couple of interesting races on to-day's card, the first of these being the classic, the five furlongs Feilding iStakes, the nine engaged representing fair form. On the form disclosed to date two horses stand out, Lady Quex and Midinette, and it will be surprising if they fail to fight it out up the straight. Lady Quex looked bright and musculap when she went out to take on the open sprinters at Takapuna last Saturday. She duly won, but there was little to spare at the post, although she might have been doing.it easier than actually appeared to be the case. On the other hand, it is certain that she will be a better mare for that run and so she may take out another classic this afternoon. Midinette was in the first flight of last season's two-year-olds, and there is some excuse for her Auckland failures. She failed entirely to handle the righthanded tracks in th'e north, or at least it was to this that her defeats were attributed. She was galloping brilliantly prior to the northern classics, so that the the blame might have been laid to the right cause. On the lefthanded going as at Feilding she may he a different performer. Outside of Lady Quex and Midinette, Souchong and Royal Routine appeal most. The Cup Field. Going on the adage of horses for courses, then Grand Jury has a big pull in the Feilding Cup, for he has run his best races there, which is his home- ground. He is nicely placed in what is a first-class field, which appears to have been well balanced by the handicapper. Chopdn, too, has done well on this course and his recent running has been consistent. This pair read the best, although there are possibilities about useful sorts such as Arikira, High Falutin', My Own, Little D^oubt, La Moderne, Gay Court, Shrewd and Tigerism, the lastnamed having been thought good enough to send to Ellerslie a month back for the Mitchelson Cup. Another nice lot is engaged in the sprint, the Flying Handicap1, some of the smart division being Orapa-i, Consent, Royal Routine, All Humbug, ICnollmere, Royal Bengal and ampden. ICnollmere is in the same stahle as Grand Jury. Horses sure to be heavily supported to-day are the following: — Waituna Hurdles. — Manuin, -^skoon, Manifesto. Aorangi Trial.— Boon, Royal Dash, Tiger Gain. Feilding Cup.— Grand Jury, Chopin, La Moderne. Feilding Stakes. — Lady Quex, Midinette, Souchong. Kowhai H,ack. — Kahunoke, Arikitea, Chock Say. Flying Handicap— All Humbug, ICnollmere, Orapai. Fitzroy Hack.— Farmer, Attentive, Gold Gleam. Kiwitea Handicap.— Orby's Choice, Ganpat, Fiji.
