Whanake (growing erect) is the descriptive Maori uame for the cabbage tree. Travelle-rs by road or rail just now through the Bay of Plenty may see it at th'e! height of its beauty. It is said that not once in twenty years have the blooms been so plentiful. This is attributed to the mild winter and fine spring of the past seasor
