A team of Omaio tennis players played a Maungaroa team during the week-end. The sets conclnded, 17 — 7 in favour of Omaio, although the games were much more evenThe men players were much stronger than the ladies, who were not up to their usual standard, Matches were also played between Maraenui and Autowhare, at Maraenui. The games were 14 — 2 for the A team, and 12 — 4 for the B, Maraenui having a complete win over their opponents. Ailsatian Injured "Bim," the young Alsatian owned by Miss D. Wolfe, had an unfortunate accident recently. The dog was chasing around in a paddock where some horses were feeding when one of the horses, not liking the intruder, lashed but and broke one of the Alsatian's legs. 'Quake Felt i A sharp earthquake was felt at j 9.20 yesterday morning. During the I early morning fine rain had set in and at about 9 o'clock the sun shone brightly. Shortly after the 'quake, the sky clouded over again. Rowing Club The Opotiki Rowing Club had a practise pull from the wharf towards the bar over the week-end. Members will be holding a dance in the Lyric Hall shortly to raise funds to purehase badges for the competitions-

Road Work A number of the P.W.D. men from Opotiki are going to Te Kaha in the next week to form and metal roads from Raukokore onwards. Maungaroa Cricket The Maungaroa cricket enthnsiasts have been practising over the weekend. Their recently formed club is progressing splendidly and matches have already been played to say nothing of the number of challenges received. Tangi at Te Kaha The small son of Mr. William Alison, a half-caste Maori, died at Te Kaha on Saturday- A large crowd is expected from Opotiki and other parts of the coast to attend the tangi. Personal Mr. John Howie has returned to Kopuakoekoe (near Te Kaha) after an operation which kept him some time from his home. He is the husband of the late Te Rangi Pai.
