AT THE MAJESTIC

SHANGHAI EXPRESS There was a bumper house to greet the screening of the Shanghai Express at the Majestic Theatre last night and the big audience was handsomely rewarded by an exceptionally fine film. It was crammed full of excitement and well-sustained interest from start to finish and the photography was remarlcable. The scenes on the luxurious express, the hold-ups machine gun fighting and clamour of the native soldiery so realistic that the audience was at times held breathless with anticipation of the next stirring development. The love theme was artistically portrayed by the beautiful Marienne - Dietrich as Shanghai Lily and Clive Broolc as Captain Donald Harvey, made a powerful though doubting lover. The tragedy of the crossed lives appealed strongly to the emotions and Lily's final sacrifice to save her lover's eyesight developed some splendidly acted scenes. Warner Orland as Henry Chang, the bandit leader, appeared in a somewhat different role to his customary mild deteetive portrayals, but he was the same clever artist. A | ripple of bright comedy runs through
