DUNLOP SHIELD ROTORUA DEFEATED IN FIRST COMPETITION MATCHES OF SEASON TE PUKE SUCCESSFUL The Rotorua Tennis Club ladies' and men's teams in the Bay of Plenty Dunlop Shield competitions, played the Te Puke Club at Te Puke on Sunday and suffered defeat by 10 matches against six. In the singles, Miss Simmers was I the only successful Rotorua lady player, and after losing the first set by 6 — 3, won comfortably ?h the next two by 2 — 6, 1 — 6. In a closer match W. Smith also won for Rotorua in the men's singles, his scores being 5 — 6, 6_4, 4—6. Honoui-s in the men's and ladies' doubles were halved in each case as also were the combined doubles.
