TAKAPUNA MEETING GREAT EMBLEM WINS ST. ANDREWS HANDICAP NGATARINGA TO PAGANELLI
Auckland, Monday. The final day of the Takapuna Jockey Club's spring meeting was held ;at Takapuna to-day in fine but overcast weather. There was a fair attendance and the track was hard and fast. The totalisator put through £15,534 15s which made a total for the two days of £36,076 10s against £40,188 10s for the same meeting last year, a decrease this year of £4112. Detailed results: — VAUXHALL HANDICAP Of £100; 6 fur. 1 — DELRAIN, 8.8 — K. Voitre 1 10— TOPLIGHT, 7.7— R. Horne 2 3— MUNGATOON, 8.7— Keesing 3 Also started: 2 Blanford, 8.7; 7 Princess Star, 8.1; 5 Operatic, 7.13; 4 Roman Mascot, 7.11 car. 7.12; 9 Prince Colossus, 7.8; 6 Trickle, 7.7; 13 Tahea Mea, 7.7 car. 7.9; 8 Directory 7.7; 11 Zane Grey, 7.7; 12 Lady Carrington, 7.7. When they settled down Princess Star was showing the way to Roman Mascot, Delrain, Prince Colossus and Blanford. Across the top Princess Star and Delrain were in front with Roman Mascot, Prince Colossus, Blanford, Mungatoon and Lady Carrington in that order. There was no change in the leaders into the straight where Toplight came fast but Delrain won comfortably by three-quar-ters of a length from Toplight who beat Mungatoon by a neck. Princess Star was fourth, followed by Blanford, Roman Mascot, Directory and Lady Carrington. Time, 1.15. KAWAU HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP. Of £100; 1 mile 3 fur. 40yds. 1— THESPIS, 10.7— D. J. Pi'incipal and Royal England were the early leaders, showing the way along the back to Glenhaupo, Thespis, Royal Visitor and Sleepy Sol. Half a mile from home Thespis and Glenhaupo took eharge, Thespis showing the way into the straight to Glenhaupo, Royal Visitor, Sub-Editor and Nassock. Thespis won easily by one and a-half lengths from Glenhaupo with Royal Visitor three lengths further away. Sub-Editor was fourth and then came Nassock, Full Measure, Sleepy Sol, Royal England and Prineipal. Time, 2.26 2-5. Lord Willonyx went to the front at the end of a furlong from Currajong, Puss Moth, Senorita, Sweet Whisper, Sparkling Morn, Holly Holm, Muskoon, Merry Lap, and Valpai. There was no material change in the leading positions across the top, Lord Willonyx being first into the straight from Currajong, Merry Lap, Valpai and Sweet Whisper. Valpai finished strongly to beat Merry Lap by half a length with Currajong a similar distance away. Senorita was fourth followed by Holly Holm, Lord Willonyx, Sweet Whisper, Sparkling Morn and Puss Moth. Time 1.28. CAUTLEY HANDICAP. Of £125; 6 fur. 1 — EXAGGERATION, 7.12 (H. Wiggins) 1 2— TRADESMAN, 9.1 (T. Green) 2 3— LUCIDUS, 7.0, car. 7.1 (S. J. Cammick) 3 Exaggeration took charge, showing the way along the back to Tradesman, Mareehal, Lucidus and Valuation- There was no change across the top or into the straight, Exaggeration winning easily by two lengths from Tradesman who beat Lucidus by a length. Mareehal was fourth and Valuation next, Time, 1.13 3-5. ST. ANDREW'S HANDICAP. Of £125; 9 furs. 4— GREAT EMBLEM, 7.7 (P. Atkins) 1 1 — SPEEDMINT, 8.7 (K. Voitre) 2 9 — TEELS, 7.0, car. 7.1 (IIHorne) 3 Also started: 8 Volimond, 8.12; 3 Refresher, 8.8; 5 Maori Boy, 8.0, car. 7.9; 2 Whakapara, 7.9; 7 Cynthia N., 7.0, car. 7.5; 6 Prolyxo, 7-0; 10 Royal Gallant, 7.0, car. 7.1 Royal Gallant and Maori Boy (who had moved up quickly) led along the back from Refresher, Prolyxo, Whakapara, Teels, Cynthia N., Speedmint, Great Emblem and Volimond. Half a mile from home Maori Boy was leading Teels, Royal Gallant, Refresher, Prolyxo, and Volimond, with Speedmint and Great Emblem malcing a forward move from the back of the field. Teels was the first into the straight with Maori Boy, Refresher, Prolyxo, Whakapara, Speedmint and Great Emblem in that order of the others. The last named finished fast on the outside to beat Speedmint by a head with Teels half a length away third. Maori Boy was fourth and then came Whakapara, Refresher, Cynthia N-, Prolyxo, Volimond and Royal Gallant. Time, 1.53. RAKINO HANDICAP Of £115; 5" furlongs. 1 — TAVERN KNIGHT, 8.0 (L. Manson) 1 5— DEPUTY RULER, 7.11 (Parsons) 2 2— GAY SETON, 9.5 (Tinker) 3 Also started: Gay Sheila 8.7; Coronis, 8.6; Star Artist, 8.2. Coronis was coupled with the winner.

"Coronis was fourth. Time, 1-2. PUPUKE HACK HANDICAP. Of £115; 9 furlongs. 1 — GLENRATA, 8.2 (R. McTavish) 1 4— HOLLY HOLM, 7.9 (II. Wiggins) 2 2— BELL TOPPER, 7.9 (P. Atkins) 3 Also started: Catch 'Em, 8.1; Arch Ruler, 7.13; Master Norval, 7.12; Bugle Call, 7.11; Echo Song, On Approval, 7.0Bell Topper led out of the straight and down the back in the Pupuke Hack Handicap, and at the end of two furlongs, Arch Ruler ran up to him, this pair showing the way into the straight from Glenrata, Holly Holm and Catch 'Em. Over the last bit Glenrata did best and defeated Holly Holm by half a length with Bell Top- . >er three-quarters of a length furiher back. Catch 'Em, Bugle Call, ,vho was unlucky, Arch Ruler and Master Norval finished in a bunch oehind the placed horses. Won by half a length; three-quart-ers of a length. Time, 1.54. NGATARINGA HANDICAP Of £135; 7 furs. 1— PAGANELLI, 9.3 (W. McInally) 1 5— JALLDY KARO, 7-4 (Parsons) 2 2— GLENVANE, 7.6 (P. Atkins) 3 Also started: Tradesman, 8.12; Chief Joy, 8.7 ; Imamint, On Top, 7.0. Glenvane jumped out very smartly, soon to be joined by Tradesman, with the favourite, Paganelli at the tail of the field. Into the straight the order was, Glenvane, Jalldy Karo, Tradesman, Paganelli, Chief Joy and Imamint, and finishing in a spirited fashion, Paganelli got the lead in the straight to win, going away by one and a-half lengths from Jalldy Karo, who was only a head in front of Glenvane, with Chief Joy, Tradesman and Imamint following and On Top well'back last. Won by one and a-half lengths; a head. Time, 1.28.
