ALLEGED LIBEL

N.Z. FINANCIAL TIMES SUED FOR /1000 Wellington, Monday. An action was brought to-day hy Iiarry Ninham Gooch, sbarehroker, of Wellington and Sydney, claiming £1000 damages for alleged libel against the New Zealand Financial Times Gompany, Limited, the editor of the journal, Howard Elliott, and the printer, Ernest Fraser Jones. The contention is advanced that the words in an article dn the Financial Times meant, and were in, tended to mean that plaintiff had tricked investors into suhseriptions for shares in Coal Oil (N.Z.), Ltd., that plaintiff had, assisted in preparing a deliber,ately misleading prospectus, and had also been' guilty of dishonouraible and unprofessional conduct. . Defendants denied the meaning attributed to the words hy plaintiff. Decision was reserved.
