CAR PRICES FOR 1933.
Nd sharp fail in the price of cars for 193-3 is anticipated (says the Motor). Now that the announcements of most of the leading manufacturers are released, it can be stated that prices for equivalent models remain at practically the same figure as last year. A few changes are announced, hut these for the most part show slight increases. This is the first time in 12 years that there has been any indication of stability in British car prices. How'evei', it would not be safe to predict that any degree of permanence has been reached. If general trade conditions improve lairger outputs will no doubt be absorbed, which would pave the way for production on a scale which would cheapen costs, >and we h'ave no doubt the savipg would be passed on to the consumer. Many new models show more. generous equipment, or emhody new mechanical features, so that while prices mav lomam unchanged in some cases the value is considerably enhanced. Many owners of 1932 models will heave ,a sigh' of relief on seeing that the cars they own are not to be c leapened next year, which, of course, would immediately affeet their secondhand value Thus, 1932 cars when old second-hand will fetch relatively higher prices next year than 1931 cars sold in 1932, which will probably encourage a greater nmnber of owners to exchange their cars for new ones.
