Ngnogotaha Sports Extensive arrangements are being made by the Ngongotaha Recreation Sports Committee- for the sports meeting to be hekl at Ngongotaha on Saturday next, December 3, and the meeting promises to be one of the most successful entertainments of its class held in the district. Included in the programme are horse, chopping, track and novelty events and for these generous trophies are being awarded. Combined Manoeuvres The boom of big guns and the drone overhead of a Defence Department aeroplane attracted the attention of residents of Rotorua yesterday afternoon. The reason was the commencement of training of the artillerymen at present encamped at Arawa Park when a combined practice of gunnery with the aid of wirelessed directions from the reconnoitering aeroplane was carried out. Live. shell practice will take place on Thursday and Friday in the vieinity of Atiamuri. New Road Opened. The Te Teko-Murupara-Te VVhaiti new road is now open for tourists. This road gives a round frip1 of about 120 miles from Rotorua, via the lakes, returning through the Kaingaroa Plains. There is very nice bush along the route and thel run is a very pleasant one for motorists. This road also gives an alternative route from the Bay of Plenty to Hawke's Bay via Waikaremoana. Eventually the road will go through the Galatea Estate. \ Popcorn Growing. A suggestion that some Gisborne farmer should undertake5 the growing of popcorn to fulfil an order of half a ton was received at a meeting of the PoVarty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The writer was willing to supply the seed. Members expressed themselves ignorant of the requirements of popcorn growing, but it was remarked that some of it had been grown at Manutuke.
