ALBION V. HIGH SCHOOL B

Despite an early collapse against Albion, High School recovered in the latter part of their first innings and finished with their best total to date, 158 runs. Of this, Harwood, who opened confidently against Sutherland and scored 12 runs off the first over, made a valuable contribution of 27 runs as also did G. Brooker, wKo after starting quietly, played good strokes before being bowled by Wallis. When three wickets -f ell without a run being added to the total which stood at 43, the prospects of the school team reaching 100 runs seemed remote, but Buchan batted confident- | ly in making 12 runs and with Brook- ] er advanced the total to 65 for the fifth wieket partnership, Barber failed to stay, but Pitcaithley made a handy 13 and Simpson (20), Carter (11) and L. Brooker (27 not out), finished the innings in a confident manner and 158 runs were registered when the last wicket fell. Lenihan and Wallis were the most respected of the Albion bowlers, the former at times surprising the batsmen by his break. Albion took the crease at about 5 o'cloclc and in about 90 minutes scored 155 runs for the loss of four wickets. The first wicket fell before a run had been scored, Hinton being run out, but the second wicket partnership between Burton and Wallis produced 65 runs, mainly off the bat of the lastnamed. When 1,6 Burton was bowled by Harwood. Marshall was the newcomer, and with Wallis, the total was advanced •rapidly, the latter being caught by Haycock off Harwood after playing a sterling innings for 88 runs including 15 fours. Marshall was also going nicely and although a trifle lucky on a couple of occasions, played enterprising cricket and when Gresham was caught without opening his account, was undefeated with 44 runs to his credit. Stumps were then drawn for the day with Albion three runs behind High School with six wickets to fall. Harwood carried the brunt of the ;attaclc for High School and finished the day with three wickets for 52 runs off 14 overs.
