SUCCESSFUL YEAR ROTORUA ATHLETIC AND AXEMEN'S CLUB'S YEAR ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED There was a good attendance of members at the third annual general meeting of the Rotorua Athletic and Axemen's Club held in the Citizens' Club rooms on Thursday evening. The president, Mr. C. A. Clarke occupied the chair. In its annual report the committee reported that the financial position of the club was in a very satisfactory state. Considerable success had attended the cluh's .annual fixture held at the Government grounds on June 3 last, and the committee's enterprise in staging a two-day meeting, carrying a total prize money of £306 for chopping, running and eycling, had heen fully justified and despite the difficult times and unusually heavy overhead expenses the meeting had resulted in a satisfactory eredit of £13 4s. The total receipts for the meeting amounted to £348 4s including the amount of £80 14s 6d taken as gate money, and the expenses £335. Of this latter amount much has heen spent in Rotorua by the club and the committee therefore considered that the meeting had proved an activity of considerable benefit to the town. Due to several unforeseen circumstance which arose during the meeting and the necessity of extensively advertising the sports throughout the Dominion to ensure its ultimate success, the expanses «had been particularly heavy and the ultimate successful financial outcome could he considered very satisfactory. The report concluded with an expression of appreciation of the voluntary assistance rendered by the working committees whose activities and excellent control had resulted in the meeting being considered one of the best-conducted in the province. Officers Elected The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. W. Wackrow; president, Mr. C. A. Clarke; secretary, Mr. E. G. Sherman; executive committee, Messrs C. In its last sports meeting the club adopted a system of automatic signalling for the chopping events,. and although this system functioned satisfactorily, a further step is now contemp'lated in the provision of the electrical recording of the events. Details of a suggested deviee were considered by the meeting and further enquiries are to be made.
