MR. CHURCHILL' S WARNING AGAINST COMING DANGERS PACIFICISM OF FRANCE
-By Telegraph — CopyrlghO
London, Nov- 24. Mr. Winston Churchill's warning in the House of Commons that disarmament was proeeeding along wrong lines, and only resuscitating the war mentality, is described as one of the most brilliant, comprehensive and constructive speeches delivered. He emphasised that, though armed to the teeth, France was paeifist to the core, and added: "I would rather see another ten to twenty years of onesided armed peace than war between equally well-matched Powers. "The war mentality is arising in certain countries. There is hardly a factory in Europe not prepared for war, but wisdom and skill may avoid war in our time.
'I base my confidence, firstly in the strength of the French army, secondly, in Russian pre-occupation in the Far East owing to the enormous increase in Japanese armaments; thirdly, the general detestation of war ih all countries. "I am not dissatisfied with the Versailles Treaty, but it would be safer to re-operi the questions like the Danzig Corridor and Transylvania than wait until the vast combinations equally matched, face each other."
