Brilliant Meteor About 8 o'clock last evening a brilliant meteor was seen to ^lide slowly across the eastern sky ahd I tlien slowly dissolve in the heavens. North Island Robin Rangers of the Internal Affairs Department report ihe presence of a specimen of that very rare bird, the North Island robin on a reach of the Waitahanui stream about 16 miles from Lake Taupo. The New Zealand robin, a smaller bird, is not common, but is not nearly so rare as the riative North Island species, a bird about the size of a thrush with a dark red "waistcoat" very m.u'ch like that worn hy the dottrell.
The Glory of the Broora Rudyard Kipling once spared two lines to the g-qld of the kowhai on the shores of Lake Taupo, but that was before the bright flam'e of Taupo's spreading broom had come into its glory. The Taupo kowhai is still beautiful, but its darker gold is outshone by the bright yellow of ihe flowering broom which reaches its full glory of colour in mid-November. Roads and fields all round the lake at present are banked hy gorgeous masses of bloom and from the lake itself, a brilliant yellow carpet stretches almost unbroken to the foot of Tauhara hill.

Ineluded in the totai were two sharks, one of which was 12feet in length, a dogfish and a stingaree, which turned the scale at 60lbs. Bath Nearly Ready Rapid progress is being made in the preparation of the large Blue Bath I for the opening which it is intended I shall take placq prior to the Christmas holidays. The bath proper has already been p'lastered and with the fitting of the glass into the submerged lights, will soon be almost ready for use. Plasterihg work is also being quickly carried out in the dressing rooms and general cleaning-up work is being prosecuted. Fine Sweet Pea Mr. R. Griffiths, of Arawa House, who is a keen horticulturist has grown an exceptionally fine specimen of sweet pea. The species is known as | Doby's Cream, and it carries no fewer than seven blossoms on one stalk. The average number of blossoms on one stalk is said to be four and there is only one known to have beaten the specimen produced hy Mr. Griffiths — a Constant Hinton, which was grown in England, and carried eight blooms.
Clear Wireless Owners of wireless sets in Rotorua on Thursday found the British Broadcasting Company's Empire short wave station exceptionally clear ori direct reception. The comp'ahy was? apparently, sending out test messages which ineluded the story of the unveiling of a memorial somewhere on the Suez Canal to the memory of Australian and New Zealand soldiers. Reception was very steady and "readability" practically 100 per cent. High School Concert The break-up concert of the Rotorua Higli School has now become an annual event. This year another excellent programme is promised and the pupils have been training assiduously for their various parts- Last year's concert was an outstanding success, but this year it is hoped that even that success will be eclipsed, Anniversary Ball At the Majestic Ballroom to-night patrons will again have an opportunity of daneing to both jazz and old time music, which will be played by two hands almost continuously. The occasioh will he the anniversary ball of Mr. Epi Shalfoon's Melody Boys and for this a special programme has been arranged, including novelty dances and waltzing .competitions.
