PLANS LONG CRUISE SEARCHING FOR GIANT FISH FROM SUVA TO INDIAN OCEAN. NEW YEAR EXPEDITION. Sydney, Saturday. Mr. Zane Grey, well-known author and fisherman, has planned an extensive big game fishing cruise'from Suva early next year . A comprehensive itinerary, mapped out b.y Mr. E. F. Pollock, F.R.G.S., of Strathfield, who' is Mr. Grey's representative in Australia, and will accompany him on the cruise, has been adopted. Starting from Fiji, the New Hehrides and several1 islands in the Coral Sea will be visited on the way to Cairns. The northern portion of the Barrier Reef, Torres Strait, the Trohriand Islands, the Louisade Archipelago (east of Papua), and the Gulf of Carpentaria will all be thoroughly explored and fished. Afterwards the Dutch East Indies, especially Komodo (home of the dragon lizards), Bali and Java will he visited before the party makes for Ceylon hy way of Singapore and Penang. The expedition will fish Ceylon waters from Trincomalee and Colombo, and then sail the Indian Ocean. The further itinerary will depend upon whether the giant sailfish which inhabit the Indian Ocean has been met with'. If not, a course will be set to Mauritius and Madagascar, possibly including the Seychelles Islands. The yacht will return hy way of Cocos and the north of Australia. Sailfish of enormous dimensions have been reeorded by scientists in the Indian Ocean. These were described hy a Danish expert as heing "like a fleet of schooners, with sails 18ft long and 10ft high." One dragged ashore in Mauritius weighed over three tons. Sharks of gigantic size, especially. the whale shark (Rhinodon typicus) which attains a length of over 40ft, are to be investigated and photographed. Mr. Grey's yacht, Fisherman II, is a steel motor ship' of 330 tons and 186 feet long. She carries on deck seven launches of varying power. The two largest are 34 feet long, weigh seven tons, are twin-screwed and fitted with wireless telephones.
