CRICKET
CLOSE GAME! RESULTS IN WIN FOR TOURIST SPECTACULAR BATTING During the week-end an interesting cricket match was playedi between teams representing the Tourist Department and the Native Department. The spirit in which the game was played amply demonstrated the good fellowship which -exists between the two Government departments and in both teams some well-known past and present players were included. It is .probably a long time since such en'terprising batting has been witnessed in Rotorua and the effieacy of the methods adopted may be gained by an examination of the good' scores compiled. In the Tourist Department innings Balsdon was the highest scorer with 59 runs and ha was closely followed by Penno who compiled 42. Both used the bat for the purpose for which it was made and sent the total along" at a fast rate. The highest total of the day was made by Morgan batting for Native Department, who carried on merrily to pass -his eentury before being bowled by Penno when 102. Half of this total was secured with fours .and he also hit one "sixer." The result of the game gave Tourist Department a very close*vin by eight runs. It is understood that a second game will be played at an early date. Following are the detailed scores. — Tourist Department - Hesketh, b Morgan 0 Young, b Morgan ....
