Considerable dissatisfaction has been expressed in Taupo concerning the allocation made for unemployment relief in that locality. The Rev. J. G. Laughton, chairman of the Taupo Unemployment Committee, has been in communication with the Minister strongly protesting against the 25 per cent. cut in the sustenance payment and also to the allocation made for Taupo, indicating that there had been no reduetion in the number of unemployed; in fact, they would be added to by the shutting down of forestry camps. The Minister in the course of his reply .contended that the allocation was made in accordance with the Taupo quota. The Rev. J. G. Loughton points out that this is incorrect and he has again wired to the Minister as follows: "You say that the allocation for the three weelcs ending November 26 was made in relation to registrations as notified from Taupo. The Unemployment Commissioner notifies the local certifying officer that the allocation was made on a supposed total rcgistration of 17, | whereas the true total was 49. In spite of the fact that the allocation is based on error it has remained the same for three weeks, eausing local unemployed unnecessary distress. Please act."
