MAJESTIC THEATRE
TO-NIGHT. With the raeing game as a ibackground and" vivid drama of love and 'redemption as its central theme, "Sporting Blood," Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's filmisation of the Saturday Evening Post story, "Horseflesh," opened last night at the Majestic Theatre. The new picture is a panorama of the entire sport of racing, following the fortunes of a racehorse from the birth to the Kentucky Derby. But racing, thougl\ it is used for thrills, is not the central theme of the story. The human characters who affect the fate of the horse are ^always the central theme. A gambler's moll and a blackjack dealer battle their way back to honesty in an engrossing plot. The cast includes Clark Gable, recent sensation in "A Free Soul" and "The Secret Six," Ernest Torrence as the old horse trainer; Madge Evans, who scored in "Son of India;" Lew Cody, Marie Prevost; Harry Holman, Hallam Cooley, J. Farrell McDonald and others. Intimate glimpses of operations on actual Kentucky horse farms in training stables, the thrills of the Kentucky Derby .and other famous. races, and dramatie 'episodes in gambling halls are among the high spots in the new picture. Gable and Miss Evans play the central figures as the lovers. Actual racehorses, including some very famous ones, and noted jockeys appear in the racing sequences, and a unique "shot in which camera and microphone follow the race in "closeup," is one of the outstanding sights in the production.
